T. Don Hutto Family Residential Facility
Taylor, Texas

Taylor

About our facility

The T. Don Hutto Residential Center is an all adult 505 bed female facility. Operating under residential guidelines, the center is unique in that it affords the residents a more relaxed and open environment while at the same time ensuring the safety and well being both residents and staff. Beginning in September of 2009 the collaboration between ICE, CCA and IHSC have been successful in bringing to fruition the first adult residential center in the constellation of IHSC supported facilities. From environment to attitude, the fundamental respect for human dignity permeates the center this overriding philosophy governs our work in all respects.

History (May 2006 – September 2009)

Opened in May of 2006, the then 512 bed facility had been remodeled to accommodate the needs of family units in a non-secure detention setting. The resident population ranged in age from newborn to geriatric; therefore the spectrum of needs varied accordingly. The residential setting accommodated a seven hour school day for school aged children, a well baby program, immunization program and host of recreational and religious activities. This was a unique setting within the ICE Health Service Corps that offers clinicians an opportunity to work with the pediatric and adult population in the context of a family unit. In February of 2008 the facility was bifurcated to accommodate adult non-criminal females at the same location, though completely separated from the family program. The adult female program was also governed by the Family Residential Standards which led to nescient concept of Adult Residential Standards which are currently being implemented here and potentially in other appropriate settings. In September 2009 the mission at T. Don Hutto changed once again to expand the Adult Female Residential Program to the entire facility resulting in our current incarnation; a 505 bed adult female residential center.

Meet our staff and see what we do

Operated by the ICE Health Service Corps, the ambulatory clinic is staffed by a dedicated group of Public Health Services Officers and contract personnel. We work as one team with one mission; to provide high quality health care to our resident population with compassion and understanding of each person’s unique health needs. Understandably, with an all adult female population our focus is on women’s health, to include OB/GYN services. For those services unable to be provided on-site we have a supportive network of off-site providers available to provide specialty services. Our medical team is comprised of various health professionals including a general medicine physician, mid-level providers, nurses, social workers, a psychologist, a dentist, dental hygienist, dental assistant and various administrative support personnel. What makes our team successful is our passion for our work and deep respect for each other. We recognize the strengths in our colleagues and know each member of our team is respected for their own intrinsic value. This solidifies us as a unit and engenders a supportive, collaborative and satisfying work environment.
