Clinical Director

The DIHS has a career opportunity for a Clinical Director who serves as on-site Medical Authority within the scope of the services provided by the organization reporting to and seeking guidance from the Chief of Medical Staff as appropriate. Is responsible for developing and coordinating all aspects of health care delivery at the Service Processing Center.

Provides and oversees care appropriate to patient needs, severity of disease, condition, impairment, or disability within the scope of care provided in the detention setting (short stay unit care and/or ambulatory care) and within the mission, vision, and goals of the organization.

Assures that appropriate diagnostic services are available, utilized and monitored.

Incumbent has clinical supervision over the Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants. In the event that the Health Services Administrator is a non-clinical person, the incumbent will also have clinical supervisory responsibility over the nursing staff and pharmacy.

Assures clinical knowledge, skills, and responsibilities of SPC staff.

Serves as chairperson of local performance improvement and Pharmacy Therapeutics Committee.

Responsible for appropriate contributions as directed by the HSA to accreditation preparation and survey process.

Required to remain abreast of emerging treatment regimens, be conversant clinically with medical literature, and provide assistance to national professional associations.

Make presentations to professional, academic and special interest groups with expert knowledge, serves as an authority on national and international health care trends and a variety of health care service delivery issues.

Analyzes health care trends of related special population groups and assists in developing and implementing policies and guidelines to improve health services of such groups.

Provides leadership and guidance to professional and technical staff in areas of program planning, development, and evaluation. Incumbent will develop and carry out a plan for evaluating program efficiency and effectiveness.

Evaluates program goals and objectives, priorities, and activities in terms of current operating experience, program progress, and changing health needs and demands. In this regard, the incumbent develops and monitors an implementation plan in support of overall program goals.

Represents the DIHS to BPHC Agencies and Offices within the Department of Health and Human Services, Regional Offices, other Federal and non-Federal agencies, grantees, and advocacy organizations, to ensure a coordinated effort in improving health care to the nation’s special populations.

Works with representatives of State and local health agencies, as well as professional and community based organizations concerned with improving primary care. Serves as a major focal point for the exchange of information.
