Epidemiology
The ICE Health Service Corps (IHSC) Epidemiology Program provides leadership and scientific expertise in broad areas of epidemiology and public health. Functions of the IHSC Epidemiology Program include the following:
- Conducts collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of data for surveillance, evaluation, research, and other public health activities related to the IHSC mission
- Conducts surveillance of infectious and non-infectious conditions
- Provides oversight and management of the IHSC Infection Control Program
- Manages the IHSC Tuberculosis Continuity of Care Program
- Facilitates international referrals and continuity of care for ICE detainees who are repatriated prior to completion of anti-tuberculosis therapy
- Participates in national policymaking regarding tuberculosis control, border health, infectious diseases of public health significance, and other issues of importance to the IHSC mission
- Develops agency policies, procedures, program manuals, and educational materials on infection control, tuberculosis control, research, and evaluation
- Provides guidance on the prevention of disease transmission for potential and/or known public health threats to the ICE detention environment
- Monitors current sources of information for information on potential public health threats and emerging infectious diseases and biological threats which may pose a risk to the ICE detention environment
